Description
The Program in History of Technology and Science (HOTS) emphasizes the history of technology, science, and medicine in Europe and America since the late 18th century. Its core faculty all teach and write in this chronological period, thus providing extraordinary opportunity for graduate study. Each, moreover, is broad gauged, expert in several areas within this general focus. Each takes ideas seriously as the basis for understanding science, technology, medicine and social action. The ISU HOTS program currently hosts the secretary's office of the Society for the History of Technology (SHOT) and handles most of the daily operating business and annual meeting planning for SHOT. Iowa State University also regularly organizes and hosts meetings of the Midwest Junto for the History of Science, including the fiftieth anniversary meeting in 2007.
