Changing Data

If you received an email asking you to update a record in the Guide, please go to our Update Page.

Otherwise, please read this page before requesting changes to data displayed in the Guide.

The Guide is maintained by the HSS Executive Office. Due to staff and schedule restrictions, changes can only be made on a bi-annual (twice yearly) basis. Updates are generally made in January and June.

There are two classes of data in the Guide, personal data and entity data. Personal data is information which applies to a single person only, such as research interests or an address. Entity data concerns institutions, organizations, or serial publications. Entity Data includes lists of faculty members, organization descriptions, and research strengths/publication interests.

To change personal data:

Data listed for members of HSS or PSA is based upon information collected for the online membership directory maintined by the University of Chicago Press (UCP). To change that information, please use the forms located at http://www.journals.uchicago.edu/HSS-PSA/. Information changed using that procedure will be uploaded into the Guide bi-annually. The very specific research interests collected in the UCP forms are automatically translated into broader categories when they are uploaded to the Guide.

Please join the Society. Members can have their research interests, mailing -address, and e-mail address included in the online and print editions of the Guide. We plan to add information regarding new members with each bi-annual update.

To change entity data:

The data listed in the Guide was solicited from department chairs, editors, and officers of organizations. Suggestions for changes to existing data will generally be accepted only from similar authorities.

To suggest a change, please send an e-mail to Guide@hssonline.org. Please describe the change as explicitly as possible, and include the URL for the record that you wish to change. Note that program strengths/research interests must fit our listings exactly. More information about listing program strengths and research interests.

In -addition, a general request for review will be issued annually. In June or July of each year, officers, editors, and administrative officials should expect to receive an e-mail asking them to review their entity's listing.

A note on research interests:

In order to maintain the coherence and validity of -Searches, research interests must be coded using the system developed for the Guide. This system is intentionally broad. More information about the development of this system is available.

To report a bug, broken link or bad e-mail address:

Send an e-mail to Guide@hssonline.org. Please describe the error as precisely as possible. Include any relevant URLs. We will try to correct bugs and broken links promptly.
