WELCOME TO BOSTON!

The 2013 History of Science Society meeting will be held on November 21-24, 2013 at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel. The meeting will mark the 100th anniversary of the publication of the journal Isis.

Meeting Registration

Meeting registration will be available online on 1 July 2013.

Call for Papers

Submissions of sessions and contributed papers for the 2013 Annual Meeting are now closed. Thank you to all who submitted proposals. The number of submissions this year was dramatically higher, so notifications may take a little longer than in the last few years. We thank you for your patience.

Updates on notifications and announcements about the preliminary program will be posted here, to the main page of HSS website, and to the HSS Facebook page.

Session Proposal Wiki Page

To encourage and aid the creation of panels with strong thematic coherence that draw upon historians of science across institutions and ranks, the conference organizers have created a wiki at http://hssmeeting.wikia.com. Anyone with a panel or paper idea seeking like-minded presenters should post and consult the postings there to round out a prospective session. Instructions are available on the site.

Traveling to Boston

If you would prefer to use a travel agent instead of making your own travel arrangements, we suggest using Gladieux Travel. The website can be found here; they charge a flat $25 fee per booking.

Planes
Boston is served by Logan International Airport (BOS).

To get to the meeting hotel, attendees can take a cab (~$15.00), or use the Silver Line ($2.50), which picks up just outside the baggage claim area and will drop meeting participants at the World Trade Center stop. From there it is a 5-10 minute walk across a pedestrian bridge to the hotel, which is next to the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

Trains
Boston has several train stations, the most convenient of which is the South Station. The South Station is a hub for city buses and trains as well as Amtrak. It is about a 15-minute walk from the meeting hotel.

Automobiles
Boston can be reached via Interstates 90, 93, or 95.

Publisher and Book Exhibitor Information

The book exhibit will be hosted at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel. The publisher's brochure, which includes information regarding book exhibits, packet inserts and advertising will be available by the end of February 2013.

Please contact the Executive Office of the HSS at info@hssonline.org with any questions.

Travel Grants from the National Science Foundation

As in past years, the History of Science Society has received a grant from the National Science Foundation to help fund travel to meeting participants who are graduate students, independent scholars or recent PhDs. These grants can be used for travel to and from the meeting as well as registration costs. Please note that only U.S. citizens and individuals from U.S. institutions are eligible. Applications can be made online beginning on 1 July 2013.
